Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the one of the leading causes of neurological disability affecting people in their productive years, between 15 and 55 years of age. Median survival is about 40 years from diagnosis. Course of MS may be divided into four stages: Initial stage at the moment of diagnosis, Early stage with a mild disability, Later stage with a moderate disability and Advanced stage with severe disability.
The amount and characteristics of needs of rehab will depend on the clinical stage of the disease and the degree of disability. Each stage poses its own difficulties related to specific life situations and expressed needs.
The workshop will focus on novel réhabilitation interventions from the time of diagnosis, to management of secondary complications and co-morbidities, multidisciplinary care, palliative care and end of life care in persons with MS
