Stroke and cerebral palsy represent major causes of long-term disability worldwide, requiring sustained rehabilitation efforts to improve outcomes and quality of life. Stroke remains a leading cause of adult disability, with increasing numbers of survivors due to advances in acute care. Optimizing the transition from stroke units to rehabilitation is critical to reduce delays, improve functional recovery, and enhance patient satisfaction. Beyond mobility impairments, stroke survivors face cognitive, behavioral, and emotional challenges, including depression, which demand integrated multidisciplinary approaches. Recent innovations such as exoskeletal devices, non-invasive brain stimulation, and virtual reality serious games are opening new perspectives in motor and cognitive recovery.
Cerebral palsy, in contrast, represents a lifelong condition in children and young adults, often associated with unmet healthcare needs. Despite being frequent users of medical and rehabilitation services, many children with CP face persistent barriers in accessing quality care, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Addressing spasticity, functional capacity, and long-term follow-up remains essential to improving their participation and health outcomes.
This session will bring together leading experts to present evidence-based strategies, technological innovations, and international experiences that can inform and transform neurorehabilitation pathways, from acute stroke recovery to the lifelong needs of children with cerebral palsy.
