Novel Insights in the rehabilitation of unilateral visuospatial neglect

Deficits in spatial cognition secondary to right brain injury are a poor prognostic factor for motor and functional recovery.

The most severe of these deficits is visuopatial neglect. This is a multifaceted syndrome whose deficits and productive manifestations can affect the different dimensions of space: extracorporeal, corporeal, egocentric, allocentric or imagined, as well as motor and sensory modalities.

This deficit therefore represents a challenge in rehabilitation to encourage recovery, autonomy and participation. Several rehabilitation methods exist, which can be classified according to their “top-down” or “bottom-up” mechanism of action, as well as innovative methods based on cerebral neuromodulation, virtual reality or artistic activity.
